Pan American World Airways, commonly known as Pan Am, was the

principal and largest international air carrier in the United States from

1927 until its collapse on December 4, 1991. Founded in 1927 as a

scheduled air mail and passenger service operating between Key

West, Florida, and Havana, Cuba, the airline became a major

company credited with many innovations that shaped the

international airline industry, including the widespread use of jet

aircraft, jumbo jets, and computerized reservation systems. It was

also a founding member of the International Air Transport

Association, the global airline industry association. Identified by its

blue globe logo, the use of the word "Clipper" in aircraft names and

call signs, and the white pilot uniform caps, the airline was a cultural

icon of the 20th century. In an era dominated by flag carriers that

were wholly or majority government-owned, it was also the unofficial

flag carrier of the United States. During most of the jet era, Pan Am's

flagship terminal was the Worldport located at John F. Kennedy

International Airport in New York City. This two flying attendants

were wearing their original uniforms from the time they were actively

working for Panam. The one with the lighter blue proudly announced

that her uniform was her first from 1971. They were participating

today in a Historical event at the Tower Theatre in Miami that open in

1926. Thank you for looking. Rates/comments highly appreciated.

Dear Jorge,

No doubt this event is an opportunity to have a unique snapshot of this company and its staff, so well known.

You have frozen their eternal smiles, these hostesses always in blue, always waving their hands up, all so gorgeous. Until the umbrella carries the colours of the iconic company. They have been missing white gloves and go arm clasped together.

You attend many events, it's very interesting for us. A very spontaneous shot, the woman on the right looks like if all her life has been airhostess, maybe... Some observers at the bottom!

Congratulations! warmest regards, Laura Marco.

Hi Jorge. Interesting attitude and pose of these two ladies, but I especially like their smiles. Good contact with the camera!

The first thing that came to mind with the name of Pan Am, was the movie "Catch Me If You Can" with Leonardo di Caprio and Tom Hanks. As always, thanks for the additional information of the image!

Warm Regards,

Rosario.

An exceptional street shot is complimented by an illuminating history lesson!  These two ladies represent an age when flying was a pleasant experience, including meals prepared with care and expertise and served on china.

My first flight was in 1956.  As an 8 year old, I flew alone from Buffalo, NY, to Miami aboard an American Airlines DC3.  All I really remember about the aircraft from that experience was the slope of the cabin floor when I boarded.  I also remember the concourses at MIA being open-air.

Thanks for a trip backwards in time.

My best,

michael
