This is a 12 shot panorama from last weeks night visit to Haleakala on

Maui, Hawaii. Haleakala is a 10,000 + foot mountain that affords a clear

view of the night skies.

The Magnetic Peak’s trapezoid shape is clearly outlined in the

foreground at left while the 13,000 foot peaks of Mauna Loa and Mauna

Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii across the open channel are poking

through the clouds in the distance. The warm red glow at cloud level to

right of center is Kilauea Volcano, active and active.

If this is not considered as excellent, I don't know what would. The volcanic glow in the dark is the icing on the cake. Congrats!

Thank you my friends!   It was worth braving 45 degree weather and 40-50 mph winds to be there.  Tony, the volcanic glow was amplified by the merger of the 12 photos.

Estimated colleague,

Very well done, and with the conditions of weather and altitude, I can only understand the difficulties to get that kind of results, and moreover a panoramic. Congratulations, This is a winner picture.

The myriad of stars and gases make for a spectacular image.

Marvellous photograph. A lot of milky way photos I've seen but this one with the light from a distant volcano at the horizon tops them all.

Very nicely done indeed.  I have just completed my first attempt at astrophotography and would love your input on it.  Again, very nice.

Wonderful picture.  My wife and I will be cruising the Hawaiian Islands in October.  Can't wait to see stars.  We don't get such views here in New Jersey.

For those visiting Maui with the intent of driving up the 10,000 foot mountain, Haleakala, to see the stars, remember it's COLD up there!   Often it's 40-50 degrees F and the wind blows hard enough that I have a hard time finding enough clothes to stay warm.  But the Hawaiian skies are crisp and clear which is why the telescopes probing the heavens are nearby at the right of this photo.

WoW WoW and double WoW. I agree with the other comments. Well stiched, supurb composition, you have brought out some fantastic colours and the volcano just makes the shot. Well done :0)

Cheers, Ann.
