Landrum Kelly 65 Posted August 22, 2014 I know that "It ain't much," but I think that it might have something, especially if viewed large. Please give me some feedback on this one. One side of me is embarrassed to put this up for critique, andanother side says "meh," and yet another side says, "It meanssomething to you, but you were there, so don't expect anyone else tosee anything of value here." --Lannie Link to comment
AmyHelmick 0 Posted August 22, 2014 Lannie, for me the interesting elements here are all of the lines and stripes. If you look closely there are lines and stripes everywhere in this piece. I would almost be temped to clone out the two SUVs and leave the truck (with the stripes) and maybe even the distant headlights. Now, at least for my skill level this might take more time than you want to put in it, but FWIW I think it would give even more emphasis to the line/stripe theme you've got going here. You were there. What does this one represent to you? Was it the lines/stripes that caught your eye, or something totally different?Amy Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted August 22, 2014 Thanks, Amy. First of all, this was shot moderately wide (effectively about 44mm after correction for the 1.6x crop camera with a 28mm lens), but I cropped it way down tight. Therefore, what I see is now a pronounced telephoto effect which has compressed the hills together and made them look steeper than they actually were. Second, I shot this railroad trestle in part because it reminds me of going up the same road when I was a kid to go to Boy Scout/Explorer Scout Camporees at Kings Mountain State Park, near Kings Mountain National Military Park, both very near the state line between North and South Carolina, west southwest of Charlotte. I think that your idea is interesting, but it would take more time than I would want to put into it. For some better perspective on the entire scene, here is a shot made just a moment later. It has not been cropped nearly as severely, of course. http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=15875394 --Lannie Link to comment
saltwater638 0 Posted August 23, 2014 when I first started to be interested in photography I was at our local library every week getting books on every subject of photography. i wanted to know about light, composition, history everything. it takes a awhile to get a handle on the technical side but when it starts to come together it is very rewarding. you seem to be drawn toward structures so study photographers that perfected that field.....good luck landrum Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted August 24, 2014 Thanks, Peter. This was more of a nostalgia shot, but what you said still applies. --Lannie Link to comment
