mark_roybal 0 Posted September 27, 2003 Cant seem to relize exactly what it is that makes me love this image? All I know is the serenity...calmness...and stillness make "waves" emotinally(excuse the spelling) for me. The sepia is wonderful, what ya talkin about not knowing PS well, This is great photoediting..... Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 27, 2003 Thanks, Matthew. I do know one thing with PS - you have to have a pretty decent image to start with or it doesn't work. This one already had the shadow in the water and the pelican posed. It also had stuff in the water that I had to edit out. Link to comment
wespettus 0 Posted September 28, 2003 A very clean image Kim. I don't know if National Geographic would agree with us cleaning up the environment digitally, but it works for me. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 28, 2003 I don't like altering "nature", but there were a couple of white bits (paper?) in the water that were very distracting in the image. Unfortunately, the color image wasn't as pleasing because the water just isn't clear and beautiful. Claudia, you can tell I like pelicans, too! Thanks for all the comments. Link to comment
WJT 566 Posted September 28, 2003 Everything works here. Detail is excellent. The refelection is outstanding; almost a story unto itself. Regards. Link to comment
chris_conrad 0 Posted September 30, 2003 This is a wonderful example of how converting a "so-so" color image to a B&W or Toned B&W can be such an improvement. I love the simplicity of the composition, but at the same time, the complex detail in the feathers is super! I doubt that the original color image allowed such subtle color shifts in the feathers. Great work! cc Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 30, 2003 Damian Eden, would be nice if you would tell me why you rate this a 3/2 when everyone else's ratings are much higher. No one can learn from low ratings when there is no comment attached. Looking at your folder of 8 pictures, I remain confused, after expecting work of extremely high calibre, but being totally uninspired by it. Thanks. Link to comment
sm. alec 0 Posted September 30, 2003 Wow. Very nice/smooth tonality and good choice w/ sepia. I don't mind that floaters were taken out, as anything else would be distracting. Was the highlight behind the head a PS creation, or part of the original image. Works well to draw the eye in toward the head first, and then move down & away. Off t look at your 'folio. kslonaker 0 Posted October 1, 2003 The highlight was added in PS, too. The original image was nice in form (and had the shadow in the water), but the water wasn't a nice blue color and the lighting that day was blah. I will post the original image in case anyone wants to see what I started with. Link to comment
orensztajn 0 Posted July 6, 2005 I was watching your photos and I have to say that this one got me. I do not know how you took it but it is amaizing! The smootheness and washed colors brough mi attention. Great work! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted July 7, 2005 Thanks, Gustavo - this is an old image from when I was just learning Photoshop. Link to comment
don_bryant2 0 Posted July 14, 2010 You've over dodged the area around and on the the pelicans head, IOW it looks obvious, back off a bit with the effect and I think it will strenghten the image. Also there are different ways to do this in PS with greater control and subtlety without using the dodge tool. Link to comment
drjoder 0 Posted July 14, 2010 Kim, thanks for posting your original image so us newbies who are working on our post-processing skills can see what can be done. Great work and a really nice final photo! Thanks! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted July 16, 2010 Donald, I didn't use the dodge tool at all. Posting online has the effect of adding some serious artifacts sometimes. Anyway, this image was posted a LONG time ago and I have definitely improved my techniques since then. I was brand new at Photoshop back then, but thanks for your suggestions anyway.Daniel, my advice is to play, play, play and you will have a lot of fun with what PS can do! Link to comment
