alfbailey 2 Posted July 28, 2014 Well.......it looked like a bed and it was in the sea, hence the title. I tried my new 10 stop filter ........your thoughts and comments are always appreciated. ......Thank You! Link to comment
Bill J Boyd 64,526 Posted July 28, 2014 Alf,I am in agreement that it does look like a bed, so I find your title very fitting. This is a terrific image with a level horizon that I think is really good. The foreground is almost dreamlike and I assume that is because of the filter you used. I can see this framed and hanging in an art gallery. Bravo! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 28, 2014 The larger view is even better,if is your first attempt is really excellent. The thing with very long exposures is to find the right scene to shoot. You chose very well hereMy best regardsHarry Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted July 29, 2014 Simple and serene, a good nap could be had on this bed. Especially with all those fans going in the background ;-). Very well managed and exposed with the 10 stop... Mike Link to comment
yecon 0 Posted July 29, 2014 Very simple, very artistic, greatly composed and processed. I especially like the variety of smooth tones in the sky and the water...! Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted July 29, 2014 Serene, dreamlike and minimal are all words that can be applied and would be correct for this image Alf. I would add interesting because of the wind turbines along the back and all well brought together in this long exposure. I think Harry said it best with regards to your selection of what to shoot, this is certainly a good one imho.Best,Holger Link to comment
photo by patsy dunn 1 Posted July 29, 2014 Hi Alf, Wonderful creative image with a beautiful serene feel to it. Excellent work!! Take care, Patsy Link to comment
tolle13 0 Posted July 30, 2014 Hi Alf, love the title. this is a really well executed long exposure, nice ethereal feel to the water and subtle movement in the clouds. Be careful though 10 stop filters do become addictive :0).Jed Link to comment
David-Wisse 5 Posted July 30, 2014 Serene and ethereal image - my blood pressure just dropped a few digits . . . Well done, David Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted July 30, 2014 Hi Alf, Yes, the larger view is preferred and shows excellent texture and detail. The large view also reveals telephone poles or similar objects in the distance. They do not distract from the image, may even help it; yet I wonder how it would look with them cloned out. This would simply become a second version of the image. You could likely make easy work of it with the content-aware tool. You did an excellent job with the B&W conversion. My compliments. alfbailey 2 Posted July 30, 2014 Thank you so much for your observations and positive feedback! The silky tones of the water are indeed a result of the 10 stop filter which gave me a 15 second exposure at F / 16.I see what you mean about the art gallery vision..............it is the kind of thing you see hanging there.Best Regards Alf HARRY This is one of the first attempts with the 10 stop filter, although I have owned it for 6 months t was the first time I used it. And I completely agree with you finding the right scene is the key.......no wonder it took me 6 months : - ) Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf MIKE Yes no wonder the UK energy bill is so high, those fans are used to cool the sea and keep the fish at the right temperature. As for the bed.......I think someone wet it : - ) Many Thanks Mike always good to get your injection of humour as well as an inspection by your very sharp eyes. Alf YANNIS Many Thanks for your visit and positive feedback! The sky and water becomes more interesting when there is some movement and a long exposure combined, then the presence of a static object accentuates this even more. Best Regards Alf RUUD Thank you for your interest and kind words! Best Regards Alf HOLGER I have to agree with you and of course with Harry, it is often the selection of the subject that makes the image with these long exposures. I do like minimalistic subjects, but finding them isn't easy.Sincere Thanks for your thoughtful feedback Holger! Alf PATSY I like that word "serene" and especially when it's applied to one of my images : - ) Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf JED There are certain aspects of photography that can become addictive, I did go through a phase with HDR's But I shall try and restrain myself with the 10 stop : - ) Thank you for your feedback Jed, much appreciated! Best Regards Alf DAVID It is most gratifying to read that my photo had this effect, and of course I would be equally pleased if it raised your blood pressure too. The point being that it had an effect, and I couldn't ask for anything more. Many Thanks Alf LARRY The background items are wind turbines and they do feature in quite a few shots I have taken from this section of coastline, but I have to be honest I've never really considered cloning them out, but perhaps I should try it. I have never used the content aware tool either again I should try it : - ) Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions Larry. Best Regards Alf Link to comment
panayotis_papadopoulos 0 Posted July 31, 2014 One of the best pictures in a long time here in Photo.Net. I really have not much to add Alf. I will end this by saying that she must have savored her few hours of freedom and solitude...My sincere congratulations! Panayotis Link to comment
donna pallotta 107 Posted July 31, 2014 Clever, Alf! and the tones are so very relaxing on the eyes... lovely, and not at all surreal to me, at least. ;-} Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted August 3, 2014 Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful feedback. It is the very essence of freedom and solitude, well said! Best Regards Alf DONNA It is strange how the pounding waves and roar of water can be transformed with a long exposure to calm serenity. Its so gratifying to read that you could connect with this. Thank You! Alf Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted August 3, 2014 Beautiful results Alf. I have to admit, I have never heard of a 10 Stop Filter (?) but I will search it out on the Internet. The image is very dreamy. Your title fits very well. I like it as it is. As to taking out the turbines, I guess it is a matter of taste. When I look at the image as a whole the turbines are quite a contrast to the dreaminess of the foreground. It makes quite a 'statement'. Lovely work as always. Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted August 3, 2014 The 10 stop filter is basically a ND filter that eliminates the light by - 10 EV. Useful if you want a long exposure when it is still daylight, but they do have their down side. Focus and composition has to be manual and pre set due to the darkness it presents and sometimes it can be a bit hit and miss as to the timing. Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and kind words, much appreciated! Best Regards Alf Link to comment
krpradu 125 Posted August 4, 2014 Is for sure that 10stop filter effect works for this ''bed'',very good observation and imagination you have, smoky water and grey tones gives the magic of this.sincerely radu Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted August 4, 2014 Thank you very much for your positive feedback. As someone previously mentioned, with long exposures half the battle is finding the right subject matter.Best Regards Alf Link to comment
sarah_mcnulty 5 Posted August 8, 2014 Hi Alf,This is so simple but so effective. Really like the light tones overall of the B/W work, giving it a tranquil feeling. Great composition too. Best wishes. Sarah. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,611 Posted August 13, 2014 I suspect that I could have the sleep of my life in this bed. All I would need to do to fall asleep is to look at the dreamy sky and feel the gentle undulation of the waves. Indeed, sometimes simplicity tells a better story. My best always, michael Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted August 13, 2014 Sincere Thanks for your interest and positive feedback! Best Regards Alf SARAH I can do simple : - ) But seriously yes, sometimes less is more and I took the opportunity to capture this before the tide covered it completely. Many Thanks & Best Regards Alf MICHAEL I suppose I could have named it "Watery Grave" too : - ) But then it may have taken on a more sinister angle which just wasn't there. Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback, much appreciated! Best Regards Alf Link to comment
llgarcia 1 Posted August 17, 2014 A simplified landscape but beautiful to look at that exhibits serenity made possible by the use of a 10-stop ND filter which I like to use also in seascapes. The overall contrast is very pleasant that emphasises the small fences better.Great scene, Alf. Well interpreted. Regards! Lester Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted August 20, 2014 Thank you so much for your thoughts and positive feedback. I have only just started using the 10 stop filter, but the results have been reasonably good. I think the hardest part is finding a decent subject.Best Regards Alf Link to comment
