Relentless summer heat is matched a little by the Metro's underground

coolness and its breeze as it speeds along, carrying party-goers (rear-

left) and family members (foreground) exhausted from visiting other

relatives back home, here with one child sleeping soundly on a shoulder

as the Metro nears the end of the line very, very late one recent weekend

night. Your ratings, critiques and observations are invited and most

welcome. If you rate harshly, very critically, or wish to make a remark,

please submit a helpful and constructive comment; please share your

photographic knowledge to help improve my photography. Thanks!

Enjoy! john

The overhead lights are white -- true white.

Otherwise, no attempt was made to bring this color version of this photo to a 'white point', as it seems the color balance of this photo 'as is' more than carries the point without introducing more 'color balance' -- whether or not it is 'white point balanced' as otherwise might be done by a technically-oriented photographer.

Artist's choice.

I said very quietly, almost a whisper, to this woman, whose eyes averted to me after I had taken a photo (or four), 'ochen slatke' (very sweet) and turned on a subdued but very sweet smile to her and said 'spacibo bolshoi' (big thanks') as I put down my camera, and was greeted with a glowing, knowing look in return as she turned her attention back to her charge, sleeping heavily as a sack of potatoes.

This photograph had been NO imposition at all, as I handled it perfectly, her actions acknowledged.

There's an art to taking a photo like this,  late at night, especially when you're sitting next to (but somewhat distant from) your subjects, and it's going to be obvious to everyone that you're taking  a photo.   Reactions can vary, and one must be very sensitive to the situation to take such a photo.

Best you can hope is to make a sympathetic photo AND to do the job sympathetically. in a way that appears sympathetic to those watching.

I would have hoped she could see this photo (and still hope she comes across it) as it portrays her, her motherhood, and her love for her charge most sympathetically, just as I felt personally, sitting down the seat from her, and of course that's what compelled me to take this photo.

(it's quite different than the last one I posted for 'emotional connection', isn't it?)

Best to you and thanks.

I would enter this in a contest as among the best I could do and show to the world.

It's a totally original, unique, and honest work with genuine emotion.

In fact, it probably will end up in some very prestigious contest.   I have lots of 'good ones' but this is among my very best in my opinion.
