While I generally don't comment on digital B&W images, I have to in this case, with a question... Frederick Dunn has a vast portfolio of excellent images. His "couples" gallery in particular shows both true artistry and excellent craftsmanship. His compositions are superb.

How is it that this one, and not secret getaway is chosen as photo of the week?

I do like this image. The rush of water dousing the happy couple symbolizes, for me, the rush of all good things a happy marriage embodies. It also represents the washing the past away, what was two, now is one.

Congrats to mister Dunn on his selection. He is truly a master.

While the picture is just fine, all I can think is that this is (of course) a completely staged image so is much less interesting than many we have to look at here. There is the obvious commercial aspect- "I know let's go and take an engagement shot on the beach... with rushing water...it'll look great!" Click, click, $$$s exchanged - all is right with the world. I'm afraid this and last week's image serve much the same function - they serve a purpose, but the purpose is to serve the customer, not us as uninvolved participants. Last week's shot was much more interesting but in the same vein. I guess I can't really get excited by such an obvious set up.

The set up doesn't bother me, as most shots are set up in one way or another. This photo I'm sure the couple loved and that is the bottom line with is type of work. But from my view I can't get by the tilt, if it was more of an angle I would think it's the way he wished to frame, as is it looks like he missed level. I do like the fact that It looks like the photographer went the extra mile and got a little wet taking this shot.
And I agree with Patrick, Mr. Dunn has some wonderful work.

Thank you Robin Smith...
I knew when a photo gets "selected" that it will be slammed... it's always the case and remember, we don't "select" ourselves...
Staged? $$$ click click? This was a FREE and FUN shoot... taking advantage of unusually large waves... I don't ever think "this is going to sell"... I'm in the moment and in this case, also IN the water.
Heaven forbid that anyone's work should be celebrated... as always, featured works are apt to draw fire...
Keep shooting and enjoying what you do, I'm glad you don't stage anything... keeping it fresh, I'll get there some day...
I am fortified that others have found some merit in the image...
