This is a good shot of the Drummer showing movement with the blurred Drumstick and, that distant light in the background with the overall lighting of the scene leads me to believe it may have been taken outdoors and at night. The details of the Musicians face and upper body are very good.

I recently tried my hand at this type of shooting for the first time! I learned alot compared to shooting primarily Wildlife & Nature but mostly gained admiration for those that do this type of shooting! It's not an easy task!

I didn't submit any for critique or ratings. (Thought about it but still haven't) I have been surprised at how few a views and the inactivity in the "Concerts" category.

In looking through your folder here, you've been doing this for sometime and it appears that you yourself play.

I don't play much nor, am I any good at it when I do! I seem to just like to collect instruments and mostly Guitars!

Your shot here is much like those I imagined but, never quite managed to get!

Admiration & Regards,

Jim j.

Thanks, Jim. This was outdoors. I've been shooting bands and everything else for a number of years.Improving my photography skills as I age like a fine wine perhaps. lol. Learning from mistakes and try to not make the same mistakes again, but rather find ways to do it better. I am always learning. It  is a good photo day when I get an interesting subject too. The drummer with the hat was one of these moments. Walking around the band looking for a good angle to make best use of light and background and a good composition is always part of the mission. Drummers sometimes are tougher than the rest of the band, they are tucked away in the back shielded from view by symbols and the rest of the band and they certainly are one of the hardest working members of the band and deserve some photo coverage like the rest of the band. I am always happy when I can pull off a few good shots of the drummer too.

I've been playing guitar since I was a kid, like you, have collected a few. I am OK at playing a few licks, but it would take me sitting down practicing regularly to sand the rust off my skills as a musician and I run into so many very talented musician, I really appreciate their skill and get enjoyment just getting to shoot the photos and listen.
