During the early days on the Canadian Prairies, distances between the

settlers land holdings were huge. Particularly, this was a problem for

the settlers wives as visiting was difficult due to the distances

between ranches & the only mode of travel was with horses & oxen.

Thanks for looking-Ross

I like the composition and the colours. It really brings out the feeling of vastness and huge distances. The clouds also look good and break up the blue of the sky.

I somehow see grain in the sky. It could be due to downsizing for upload that would not be seen on a print.

Just returned from a landscape photography seminar where the moderator encouraged us to not take the rule of 1/3s too seriously. This certainly makes his point! Nice shot.

I currently live in Texas and had given up on landscape photography (no mountains, no trees, no water, no greenery)... you just proved me wrong, flat deserted land can make good imagery. But I still don't understand why people settled here, at least further north in the plains they could grow food...

Hi All- Sorry for the delay in replying to your comments. Was called out of town for two days.

Andres-pleased you liked the image. Yes, I missed the grain in the sky, thanks for bringing it to my attention. Best Regards-Ross

Jim-Thanks for visiting & I agree with the moderator not to take the rule of 1/3 ds too seriously. most of the time I never think about it.. When the image looks good in the viewfinder, that's good enough for me best Regards-Ross

Hi Ross,  This is the prairie all right.  Nice capture.  The image works even though you cut the horizon line in half.  I think it gives the image more space.  The tiny distant building or object on the horizon line also helps add to the depth.   I've been in Peru for since mid May and hope to have some images posted soon.  Hence, my absence from PN.  Hope you are having a nice summer.  Larry
