benjamin_kim 0 Posted June 10, 2014 Very nicely done Brad. i love the detail in the frame and the out of focus in the background. I might try to increase exposure just a tad more or have a little light from the side. Link to comment
cegeiss 6 Posted June 11, 2014 I love the parallels between the sand castle and the rocks in the background. The dark, mostly out-of-focus photo with the strong vignette gives a nice dreamy feel. Link to comment
Brad Cloven 58 Posted June 11, 2014 The shot is very old-school. It is with a Nikon 24mm F2.8 Nikkor N.C. That's some old glass (1973?). It's pretty wide open at dusk, resting on my elbows down in the sand. DOF was happily very narrow at probably f2.8 and 1/60th.Unfortunately, the lousy N2020 camera's matrix meter on this roll of Fuji Velvia 50 interprets almost every shot too darkly. It was my first roll through the camera to see if I had a shooter or not. A few shots were salvageable like this one, with darkness lending to ethereality. Most were too dark to be usable. I think I need to test the camera with +1 and +2 meter adjustments, and if that doesn't work, toss it.I was walking Cannon Beach, and saw this child's construction mimicking the iconic Haystack, and knew I had a shot. It came off a bit better than I hoped. :-) Thanks, folks! Link to comment
