didereaux 1 Posted June 1, 2014 The bright area on the left (distracts greatly from subject), and some of the 'blank' area on the right (adds nothing to the picture) needs to be cropped out. THEN this would be an excellent still life. Link to comment
nadya r. 0 Posted June 1, 2014 Thank you Jake! Your comment makes me smile. The space where still life subject is located sometimes adds something special. In my opinion: still life is not only "see - i placed this vase with the flowers on a table!", but also "do you feel that an evening light opens the door and shows us what is there that hidden around..." Thank you. Link to comment
cegeiss 6 Posted June 1, 2014 I partially agree with Jake. The bright spot on the left and its sharp shadowed edge draws the eye away from the flowers. I enjoy the "empty" space on the right, as it is filled with the flowers' shadows. I am not a big fan of the table, though. It does not match the painterly upper part of the image. The flowers are beautiful, the shadows are projected onto a somewhat rustic wall - think farmhouse in the Provence, and then the flowers sit on a 10-dollar WalMart table (or so it seems). It feels mismatched to me. Link to comment
nadya r. 0 Posted June 1, 2014 Thank you Christoph. I got your point of view. Maybe you both are right about this left bright spot. About table: it is a coffee table from Goodwill. I bought it in blue color and painted it with BM paint in soft yellow color. It has to be cheep because flowers are from the wilderness and a vase is not expensive. To be honest - I did not pay attention to the table when I made this photo. :)If I did, maybe with textures it could be fitted to the rustic style... Thank you for your meaningful comment.
