This is one of the oldest active synagogues in the western hemisphere.  Its Hebrew name translates into "Congregation of Blessing, Peace, and Loving Deeds."  Located in Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas, it is referred to simply as The Synagogue.  When asking a resident for directions while in the downtown area, it is best to ask how to get to Synagogue Hill.

 

The congregation was formed in 1796, and the structure was built in 1833.  The cabinetry and pews are the original.  Notice the footprints in the sand floor.

I can guess finding the proper exposure took a bit of work. I would have liked to see the complete chair on the left side of the image. The spinning fans add realism and life. The black & white is appealing. Very nice.
