What an interesting capture, Olaf.  I think the composition would be even better if the girl's face were not centered.

At first glance you are right about the centering..! His (!) look is telling that already, for indeed his position on the original is a bit more to the left. That's why I tried a crop of the smallest triangle overthere, together with, at the bottom, the veiligheidspeld cq 'safety-pin'. Next I tried a small crop at the top.. etc. etc. etc.  After leaving it for a week, the overall colorbalance, and that of course together with the seize of the head, appeared to be the most important. Plus: keeping the original format of 10x15 is at the same time an important issue for me, in fact on forehand even prefering the original if that is possible. For his look the first crop indeed was better, however not for the color-ballance plus the fact the position of the eyes would lower too much.

After all: the centering of a person or object itself absolutely isn't for me a point of discussion. Fast reacting, like the situation above, while we both were walking, automaticly means centering. In different situations, haha: it's different, but on my age I do notice that just 'registering' persons or objects is getting a very comfortable way of shooting..! :) Only in clearly challenging situations an 'artistic' aproach may (spontaniously) come up. But I am not especially after (!) it, and in the past hardly was, for partially (!) it has to do with 'rules' and tricks in visual 'selling' stuff, the next moment again running for the next 'expected' shot. Yes: backgrounds keep very important..! See you..!
