Muro de Roda is a mediaeval hill fort set in splendid surroundings in an area called the Sobrarbe.

The place name ‘Muro’ is to be found in various parts of the Sobrarbe area and is used for settlements raised on hills and defended by a muro (walls). Muro de Roda, which was originally called ‘Muro maiore’, is a product of the situation created in the second half of the 6th century onwards, when Sancho III the Elder of Navarre, Gonzalo, Ramiro I and their successors gained control of, and defended the surrounding lands through the fortification of a great many such sites.
