tm_j 30 Posted April 28, 2014 I've never seen a Sanhill Crane with that color but then I only been encounter Sandhill Crane only one time in Alaska (above the arctic circle) and he took off which resulted in ... butt. shot! :-) . TFS! Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted April 28, 2014 My wife was reading about this tonight. The bird searches for food in mud that contains iron which stains the bill and the feathers when preening. The mud where I live contains iron. All of the Sandhill Cranes that we see are colored like this. Link to comment
