I see from the Google Street View image (made in 2009) that the collapse of the porch has been relatively recent.

Well, we've got work to do if we're going to get it all before it's gone--the Old South, that is.

Thanks, Jim and Lannie.  It's strange how you can drive by so many old houses until you find the one that really resonates, and you have to stop and get the shot.  And, I don't think it's just about the Old South, although that's part of it.  But I'm back in Arizona now, and doing exactly the same thing - the Old West, maybe?

I love it, and the photo goes to the heart of the great 'cliche debate.'  This image meets the 'documentation' standard, even if it is not a full oblique.  There is a sadness to abandoned houses--what were once homes--as times, families, and economics change.  Architecturals of the built environment are always full of the potential to strike emotion--and are most often so beautifully rendered in black and white.

William, you a a man of my own heart in these images--and this one is interesting on so many levels.  Great image, great presentation.
