Jack McRitchie 150 Posted April 11, 2014 I find the high contrast nature of this composition works very well. Really an interesting shot. You can't help but wonder about those pictures posted on the wall. Are they pictures of the deceased? missing persons? Criminals? Victims of some unspeakable tragedy? Link to comment
M_Lipakis 3 Posted April 12, 2014 Well, i can put it this way Jack. They are all wanted but only alive, alas.Wooden power supply pillars, fences, doors, walls or nowadays special made boards, host these A4 pages that inform neighbours and passers by about a funeral details, or the special memorial service 40 days (and one year) after death. Very old people usualy stand in front of these boards trying to recognize anyone from the deceased, or just making sure they are still here i guess. It's so common arround here (this on was shot in Bulgaria) that there is an expression "i don't want to see my picture on a pillar" meaning i don't want to die. Thanks for stopping by. Ps. See the "death pins" above, ironic how colorful and cheerful they are... Link to comment

Bachir 0 Posted April 14, 2014 Michail, Your interesting documentary photograph is very well taken, intriguing but with a slight element of fear. Even with the presence of the little girl (innocence) I felt some sort of unknown sadness. Reading your input on it afterward I could with difficulty see the coherence... Different cultural bereavement processes with lost ones is always tough anyway anywhere. Perhaps those on the pictures did want to be remembered by their loved ones beyond that tradition.
