Saadsalem 74 Posted April 7, 2014 Wathik ,an Iraqi simple man from my city ,well talked man ,since thethe year 2003 ,the year of occupation of Iraq ,put every effort of histo strengthen our roots to our country , he used to appear on local TVstation for one hour every week ,just to talk about the city ,itspeople, its old and aged people ,its roads, its churches and mosques, its sky,its vegetables ,and its cafes .He neither insulted any one nor praised any one alive .He was myfriend ,and I used not to watch his weekly hour on TV, but all myfamily ,including my mother used to wait for him every week .Hesucceeded to enter the hearts of the old and young with respect andaffection. And just because he was a pure and honest Iraqi,he was assassinated, like some two hundred men and women working as journalists andphotographers one week ago ,three month ago his friend Saad ,who workwith him was assassinated in the same way ,still six months agoanother friend of him was assassinated too .Wathik ,was not the first and surely was not the last who will givehis soul for the true word for the people to hear.I have promised him to edit this image and give it to him in hislife, and I have never imagined to make it a subject about his his death.Sorry Wathik. Jack McRitchie 150 Posted April 7, 2014 It is a great tragedy what has happened (and unfortunately, still seems to be happening) in your country. When truth is brutally silenced, it must be hard to hold out hope for better times. This is a beautifully done picture that suggest the dark and furtive nature of those who would impose their will on society. This photograph is certainly a fitting tribute to your friend.
