Dramatic sky over Breidamerkursandur, a basalt beach with

turquoise chunks of ice from nearby glacial river lagoon Jokulsarlon.

How much movement do you like to see in the tidal waves of an

ocean ? Do you rather freeze the splashing water or do you prefer

everything blurred out using long shutter speeds ?

Superb shot, gorgeous sky, nicely composed. The speed used seems to be a good compromise. Movement is clearly suggested but a lot of details are kept.

As always this is a matter of taste. I was there in February and spent 3 days shooting those icebergs. I'm still working on the postprocessing but some images can be seen in the folders "Landscape - Iceland" II and III of my portfolio. I've spent most of the time taking close wide angle shots with long exposure in order to capture the water movement. It killed my shoes that were repeatedly flooded... When I see the image above I realise that I should have taken wider shots too. I hope to have the opportunity to get back to this amazing place.

Alain

I also believe it is a matter of taste. However, in this case, I believe works very nicely to have a high shutter speed, because the subject appears to be the blue chunks of ice. The more I look at this great image, the more I like the way the sea (particularly in the front of the picture) looks, that is, a bit more realistic and less post-processed. At first, I thought it was a selective coloring effect, and maybe it is. I don't particularly like selective coloring mixed with BW, but in some rare instances it works well, and this is certainly one of them. Having said that, in essence, I think it is a really powerful image....curiously enough, I don't see any pieces of ice floating on the sea, which makes it intriguing. Thanks for sharing such a spectacular image.
