Thanks for viewing/comments! .. First time I see a Woodpecker eat from

this flower. May be he is eating the insect that hide in the flower ?

Could be after the insects but also might be after the flower's nectar- a high energy source. I've witnessed woodpeckers here in upstate NY  actually "lapping "  sap oozing out of trees from the holes they've just made as well as coming back later(squirrels also exhibit a sweet tooth and will actually "bark" trees to get at the sap). We also have "downies" that drink from our hummingbird feeders in the summer by inserting their long tongues in the feeding ports - on the list to get photos  of them doing so.

Nice photo with great sharpness and detail - especially when they aren't know to hold still for long!

Hope you enjoy your day,

Bob

Thanks Bob! Glad you stopped by and left your thought .. .otherwise, I will think they are after the insect.  I think you are right though, especially if they try to go after the HB feeder. It's tough to get good composition with this guy since as you had mentioned, he never stay still very long. I have the advantage of shooting handheld but keep worry about stepping on to people around the park while shooting since I have to follow him.

Beautiful, Tm.  i was at my mother in laws house one time and we heard this banging. We looked all over the house to see if we could find out where it was coming from.  It ended up being the woodpecker pecking on the gutter which echoed throughout the house.

Thanks Janine! At my house, if I hear if any banging then it's the Crows .. they perch at the fireplace metal openning at the roof and make all sort of noise now and then.

Thanks Milton!
