Looks like it was a very rewarding trip!

You caught all the right details here in this Juvenile from "tip to tip!"

I really like that he's close to the surface of the water and one can just make out the waves breaking on the rocks on the far shore!

When up in Kansas I observed mostly the Juveniles but yet here in Oklahoma I don't see as many Juveniles, although I know of many more nests! Appears as though after they leave the nest, they may not venture this far south the following few years. But, I don't know that to be a fact, . . . just a personal observation!

One of these days, . . . I'll get a decent shot with that 100-400!

Cheers & Best Wishes always,

Jim j.

Thanks Jim! At Ninilchik, Alaska (30, 40 miles North of Hommer - in the Kenai penisula & 250 miles South of Anchorage) there are quite a few of both matured BE and Juvies. You can get real close and my impression is that they are almost like a bunch of turkey at a turkey farm  :-) .  Next time I got there I will shoot them with my 70-200mm   - For me (being in SoCal), I can fly Jetblue from Long Beach, CA to Anchorage for around $250- $300 and that's the reason after this trip in May, 2013 I went again in June.

Great photo, I love the detail in the eagles body. Is that the ocean? Wow. I'm from Georgia, I've never seen them around the ocean.

Thanks Todd! At Ninilchik, they hang out at the beach since there are some fishing charter business there and they dump the fish carcasses on the shore after getting all the good parts. The Eagle here don't fish (I did not see any of that action) and only scavenge those remnant of fish carcasses.
