Good pose and exposure. I do believe it would be a stronger image with a portrait orientation.

Thanks for all of the kind comments!  I'll have to try the portrait orientation to compare it.  This image was minimally cropped and straightened just a bit.

Great head-on view, and the background works exceptionally well.  Frankly, I like the horizontal orientation.  I don't want to see more of the post; what you've shown is perfect, and the limited post doesn't compete with the squirrel in the composition.  The wider angle allows more of the attractive background and gives the squirrel some space where in needs it most.

This squirrel was just sitting there chattering while I was waiting for some birds to show up.  It just stayed there...like it was asking...posing for a photo.  So, what the heck.

I like the background and the touch of red tail over the head.  The light worked well for the eyes and the shadows.

Not that squirrels are my favorite subject...but hey...better than going in with nothing:-)
