Thanks all. Stephanie, I am fine tuning my technique. May daughter-in-law and son-in-law are totally into this. This is one of a number of images I took at a house warming for them recently. This is one of their friends. Anyway, I am learning that for my tastes a flash is a must, usually slow or rear sync. You should shoot in RAW as well, because the people sometimes get lost in the exposure even with the flash and you can bring back the details more easily in RAW. Of course a shutter speed of .5 seconds or longer depending on the affect you want. I find the patterns in clothing a bit distracting at times so I just leave the flames in color. Black clothing works well, but I would like to try bare skin or maybe something "sparkly" for clothing. Although bare skin would a bit dangerous.

Sorry a Mark, I don't know how he hurt himself. He showed up at the party with the cast. Someone is always on duty to watch for the spinners in case they catch on fire. They don't always realize the are aflame.

I really like the effect of a colored flame in an otherwise B&W photograph.
