The lighting is exquisite and the colors are superbly rich and warm. Such a feeling of comfort this seems to project.

I think both still lifes I've seen are superb and yet very different. What I like about them is that you include objects which make them unique from other similar creations. For instance, in this one you've included a coconut (great texture that stands out yet at the same time blends beautifully into the overall fabric of the still life). Then there's the shawl or scarf which adds a richness that would not have been there otherwise whilst complementing the fruits and vase. The green grapes stand out just enough to create a contrast without drawing attention to them. There is nice repetition of round objects yet you were wise to choose a rectangular shaped bowl for the grapes where a round bowl would not have provided an effective contrast. Yet the rounded corners keep the curves flowing. This is also echoed in the cylindrical vase and the handles of the basket in the background. Perhaps it's the combination and choice of objects that you pick that really appeal to me aesthetically. You seem to find objects that stand out each in their own way yet harmonize with the overall scene that you create. Your still lifes remind me a lot of a (well thought out) landscape visually. Keep up the great work!

Everything in this image compliments each other extremely well. The lighting is soft and pleasanty warm and shows the wonderful textures in this image. I love the background color and the texture on it as well. Your DOF works perfectly in this image. My eye is at complete rest in this image and is not wandering in any place where it shouldn't. This is well executed.

Margaret is right on the money with her comment. The lighting in the other still life is good, but when you compare it with this one, it looks like a test to check the lighting ;-) I wish I could name the painter this reminds me of.

I was never going to say it !! But you have spoted it. The idea of shoting some still life started when I got mamiya in my hands..I quickly needed somthing to test it on. I that was just what happend with a first shot. After...I did like what i saw and decided to put something else together . Something well composed ( if we could call this one that way :)) )Well spoted. PK .

Great photo that reminds me of 17th century Flemish paintings. Perfect lighting & colors. To me, all sides except the bottom are too much cropped out (so it missed rating 7 by a hair).

Great still life. For me the close cropping is fine, and the tones are absolutely perfect. To be extremely (I mean extremely) nitpicky, I don't find it necessary to have the colored rug to stand in its turn on a more neutral background (tablecloth?) - this way the rug appears as yet another element rather than as the background of the still life, which is already quite complex.

Thank you Louis. As you noticed this one is shot for the reson of the competition..last stage FOOD in november...being second gives me still a chance to compete however Iam not that mad about it. Iam happy with the prize I got so far and enjoy the rest of the competition . It is not easy to take place in such a events as I have not enought expirience and shots to choose from. Thanks again. pk.

I'm curious too why Robert gives this image an extremely low rating. I don't usually like still lifes, yet I recognize that this image deserves the credit that has otherwise been shown. Perhaps the subject has been seen many times before but the rating guidelines seem to show that there are other factors to weigh as well. The lighting and (Comupter based) toning are great. What gives?

I love a nice still life and this certainly qualifies. It looks almost like a painting. The lighting is exquisite.
