While scouting fishing holes the other day, I came upon a crayfish

which quickly scurried under rocks. Because no one fishing had caught

anything or seemed to be getting a bite and because I saw no picture

opportunity in the landscape, I went looking for my crayfish for a

picture. I didn’t know these little creatures don’t like company.

When I would sneak up on one of these critters they seemed to give me

“the eye” and quickly hide under a rock. Comments and critique welcome.

Hi Wayne,

Wow...that is what I call up close!!  Great image with wonderful color & details.  I think you are getting the evil eye to.  Take care, Patsy

Remarkable shot considering the Crayfish is still in the water! (I think?) And yes, he definately has an eye on you!

"I'm getting the impression critters just don't like me."

This gave me a chuckle!

I always feel this way when in the field making my attempts at wildlife! And, . . . as of lately with the poor weather we're having, I've added, "Mother Nature don't like me either!"

Cheers,

Jim j.

Jim,

Thanks.  What's the deal? They give us the evil eye and Patsy shows up and they throw a party and pose like they are auditioning for glamor magazine.

Charles,

Thanks.  Although I have partaken of a few crayfish in my day, when it comes to catching them, I am a wimp.  Those claws look vicious.

The focus is on the eyes and not only are they bulbous but scary looking. Considering the conditions under which you 'captured' this image, It is very well done. I was watching a national geographic photography special late last year and the professionals take a fishing (butterfly) net, grab their subject and take it back to a lab that reconstructs 'the natural environment' with flash and tripod, etc. Considering that you did not do that, congrats on this image.

I modified the color balance a bit and added some mid-range contrast simply based on my tastes.

Tony,

Thanks.  I like your version.  I played a bit with contrast and color but didn't come up with much better than I posted.
