new_zealand_landscapes 0 Posted February 21, 2014 Mackinnon Pass is the highest point (1,154 metres above sea level) on the Milford Track between Lake Te Anau and the Arthur Valley in Fiordland National Park, which is in the Southland Region of New Zealand. It was discovered in 1888 by Quintin McKinnon and Ernest Mitchell. A memorial to the discovery stands in its place today. Mackinnon Pass is also the site of a short-time/emergency shelter along the track. My nine year old son left me behind in his first big walk adventure, in a rush to see the huts. Link to comment
