Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 17, 2014 I think half the job of taking a great "life" picture is finding a good vantage point where the action is displayed fully and in depth. The composition of this photo tells me that you located the best possible angle from which to capture the action here - fans at a hockey game, I presume. This is classic photography. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 18, 2014 Luck favours the prepared. I actually took this from my 2nd row seat. I was intent on photographing the game when I heard an unusually loud commotion to my right. (banging on the plexiglass panels) "Charlie" had made his way down to the front to add to the support coming from the fans. Zoom, frame, click! And I had my shot! I just thought it came across better in B&W than in the original colour. Thanks for your support. Best, LM. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted February 18, 2014 Well captured with the reflections adding even more interest. I'm very impressed with the lack of noise at ISO 6400!! ... Mike Link to comment
steveshinn 0 Posted February 18, 2014 A fine composition, it really sets off the action.Nice work. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 18, 2014 I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I did have +2\3 compensation dialed in to offset the reflectance of the ice on the rink when shooting action there. Didn't need it here but that extra exposure may have reduced the noise somewhat. Here is a 100% crop of the original file. Kinda like shooting negative film. Thanks for your observations. Best, LM. pnital 36 Posted February 25, 2014 What is going on in this action composition is a kind of a mystery to me, but I like the different layers ....from the viewers back, middle helpers? the two horses behind the ark, and the very far DOF layres...... Looks a very crowded happy Canada event..;-)) Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted February 25, 2014 So glad I have this chance to explain this shot to you. What you see here are the fans of a If you click on the link & view the video you'll save me a thousand words. :-) The guy in the horse's head costume is the mascot for our local team (the Barrie Colts) , Charlie Horse. (a play on words there) The mascot and fans are banging on the plexiglass which surrounds the rink in support of the home team. (hockey fans get very excited, unlike the stoic European soccer fans) :-) I suppose I'm not much of a Canadian as this was the first game I've attended in about 10 years. Speaking of Hockey, how about those Canadian Olympic hockey teams (both men's and women's)? One American paid us the supreme compliment when he said, "Those Canadians know their way around a rink" Thanks for your always welcome visit. Best, LM. Link to comment
