richard_mittleman 0 Posted April 3, 2001 I love the richness of the color. Looks like a painting. I think it would be better if the gate in the foreground were cropped out Link to comment
mriy 0 Posted April 8, 2001 Great shot. Very nice exposure. Great depth and richness. Link to comment
yuriy y. vilin 0 Posted April 9, 2001 I like because its a beautiful shot. I like it because its a beautiful place. And I like it because its my kind of photography. Link to comment
dennismk 0 Posted April 16, 2001 It was my choice to leave in the gate which added a lateral movement to the image, conecting the two halfs of the image, into one instead of just another venice canal shot. To another comment , yes the original print is just a bit lighter which looks much better than the web shot. thank you all for you kind comments. UP DATE: More about the shot. I work all my images in Photoshop. Some just a little some a lot. This image was worked alot, to bing out the texture of the bricks and color of the building and sky and reflections. For me it captures the feeling I wanted to remember and express. I generaly like my images on the dark side with rich color and strong blacks. I like a feel of mystery or something hidden in the images I like the best. I am not a pro or photoshop master (long way to go for that) And I have been back into Photograph since 1999. After a 30yr break. I am a studio potter by trade for some 27 years. Photography was my first love back in my teen years. It feels good to have come full circle Link to comment
o y httpgo.tooy 0 Posted May 21, 2001 nice deep colors. early morning shot ? I took a picture in a very similar place, but not as good. what is the secret ? http://ofer2000.netfirms.com/pictures/italy/pages/it-dol-d24(venice).htm Link to comment
m.l 0 Posted May 22, 2001 Very nice colours. The dark sky in the background makes the picture a bit sinister. Did you digitally enhance the picture afterwards? Link to comment
valerie 0 Posted May 23, 2001 I love the colors also, but personally, I still think it would work better without the gate, if somehow it could have been shot through a hole in the fence, leaving the boat in the foreground. Probably not possible, though! I agree about the colors - very painterly. Link to comment
travis_daub 0 Posted June 5, 2001 This shot is an ad for Fuji Provia. I like the gate not only because it unifies the two sides of the shot, but because it introduces the viewer into the scene. It adds to the feeling that I'm standing there on that terrace. Travis Link to comment
alan_little1 0 Posted July 16, 2001 Strong composition, impressive sky. My first impression was that it would work better in b&w - but I've been looking at a lot of b&w lately so that might just be what my eye is keyed into just now Link to comment
chris_prouty 0 Posted July 23, 2001 It makes me study the photograph. It makes me provide attention to what's going on in the front as well the back. Without it my eye would just be led to the bright background and sky. That would still be a nice shot, but I like it this way. Good work. Link to comment
alberto_rodriguez1 0 Posted July 27, 2001 I like very much the warm colours of the walls and the contrast they make with the sky and the water. congratulations. Link to comment
panos_k. 0 Posted August 2, 2001 Great shot, I think the sky with clouds on the background provides good depth, colors are great. I like the bridge as well: good foreground object that gets the attention of the viewer and ties the shot together. Link to comment
keith_jorgensen 0 Posted August 7, 2001 My first reaction was that it looked very much like a painting. Very interesting colors and I,too, like deep, saturated colors. Vertically, the approximate width of the gate, also makes a nice image. Link to comment
havanai 0 Posted October 3, 2001 Lovely scene, nicely exposed. It looks as if there are bows of boats behind the fencing. Wouldn't this have been a better picture if you'd have stepped forward to remove the fence from the foreground? Link to comment
skyleth 0 Posted August 29, 2002 I love the way the sky looks and you did an excellent job getting the crammed quarters of the canals. Link to comment
