Waiting for lunch during a Bar Mitzvah, I captured this frozen creek from

indoors. I prefer the B&W to color version. This is only slightly cropped.

Thanks in advance for your comments and advice. Larry

I think I prefer this one to the more cropped version, only because the dark trunk of the tree on the left seems to balance with the diagonal stem in the right foreground, and gives a channelled kind of view "up the creek" : - )

Amazing quality and great sharpness for an iphone......sometimes makes me wonder why I carry half a ton of equipment around!

Compliments!

Hi Alf,  Thanks for taking the time to look at both images.  I think you are correct about this image having better balance than the cropped one.  I think I prefer this one too.  I never expected this image to amount to much.  After all, it is an i-Phoine shot, although the i-Phone 5 camera is quite good, and it's taken through a window.  For sure I would have expected glare from the glass.  I used Nik Software's Silver Efex Pro 2 to make the conversion.  I like this program because it offers a scale that shows all of the gray zone scales from 1-10.  I marked your comment helpful.  We are still waiting for some warmer weather.  Larry

I like this one better as well Larry. I am actually quite surprised at some of the I Phone images, the Camera seems to do quite well. I just have an old Cell, just use for emergencies and I don't bother using the Camera on it. But there are many situations (as you suggested) where you can experiment to fill in time. The detail of all the branches is quite amazing. Your decision in editing software worked to your advantage.

Nice work Larry!! kind regards, Gail

Hi Larry-very nice.I love winter hiking especially due to the absolute quietness & stillness of woods in the winter., stopping occasionally to savour the quietness, & this is the feeling your image imparts to me, I just love that feeling,This is a fine winter scene. The only distraction is the tree trunk in the lower right Expect it would take a long time & be difficult to Photoshop out. Best Regards-Ross
