These little cabins are all over the ice providing shelter for their

owners while they patiently fish through the ice for the delicious

small fish.Thank you for your comment-Laurent

My goodness this brings back many memories for me.  I use to ice fish years ago, spearing and tip-ups mostly here in Michigan.  Where is this little red shanty?  Thanks for the memories.

Michael

I wish the light was even on the two faces that we can see. I do think it would help with the graphic nature of this capture. It has to be red. No other colour would have worked so well. I might have cropped out the features to the right.

Striking contrast between the red, white and blue.  Perfectly composed with the footpath leading the eye to the horizon.  It may be my small screen, but I can't see any detail in the dark side of the shanty.  I'm not sure if coaxing a bit more detail out of it would help, but I might be tempted to try.  Overall I love this image.  And I also love your signature.....is that a particular font?

Thank you for looking in.Glad this kicks your memories.Fishing is done both by spearing on shallow bottoms and by line where deeper. This is on Miscou harbour at the very NE tip of New Brunswick.

Thank you for looking in and for the observation. The sun was on the right and the backside of the cabin in the shadows.I have touched it up some to brighten the back and cloned out some of the distant forest;I have kept that ridge which is the result of the tide heave on the ice sheet.Any better?Red is good but other colors also come out good against that white sheet;see in my Fishing(smelt) folder if you have time.

Thank you for the kind appreciation.David also thought the backside should be brighter and I have touched it up some;does it work for you?My signature is scribed in ''Mistral''and shaped in a horizontal trapezoid;this is the first querry on my watermark short of the suggestion by some that it and any frame are distracting....but!

Good composition and color contrast between the reds and the blues. Others have already commented on the shadowed side of the shed - I, too, prefer it a bit lighter so one can make out some detail.  Eliminating the forest dramatically changes the image. The original shows that there is land nearby. The reworked version makes it look much more remote and desolate. I like them both.

Thank you kindly. As you well know, playing with these large areas of snow to give some definition has some incidence on the darker subjects in the scene like here which have to be treated individually, and with my skills....well!

I also like both versions, but I do think your revised version wins by a skosh.  By lightening the one side of the shanty, it appears to have brightened the entire image......or is that only my imagination?  There seems to be a bit more detail in the snow as well.

I think you are right and I will try to remember this on future images.Somehow in reducing the image to 630 on the large side to attach to my reply, the lost in resolution did brighten up the scene.Again, thank you for the helpful comment.

Thank you for appreciating our trademark winter scenes.Gilles Vigneault, one of our better known poet/songwriter/singer composed a song in which this declaration says it all:''Mon pays,ce n'est pas un pays,c'est l'hiver''.
