Of the three different images I've seen of the Forster's Tern you have posted I think this one the best!

Maybe it's the eye contact with a bit of visible glint, the wing position and the hint of some light clouds against that blue sky.

 

To me, those long slender wings certainly look like their built for speed so, I can only imagine the challenges you found shooting them.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, these birds fly very fast. But they hung around for quite a while so I had multiple opportunities. I tried to get them diving but I never could predict where they would be going. I had many abject failures But once I got close - there were about 5 frames of the Tern diving to the water and I got the sequence but the speed was so great (or the focus just off) that the images are not good enough to show (except to my wife).
