Paul,  This is an excellent detail of the Death Valley mountains - super color and textures.  My only question is about the color of the sky; it looks unnatural to me, but maybe this is what you saw.  You are the judge on the color here.  Bottom line is that I congratulate you on seeing and capturing this image.  Larry

Thanks. Larry, I don't do much color work and clear blue skies always puzzle me in post capture. One of these days I'll learn how to get them to look more natural....although I do like the unworldly look of this one.

The contrast in textures and colors is one of the attractions of Death Valley, and it doesn't get any more dramatic than this.
