gsphotoguy 2 Posted January 25, 2014 I love the juxtaposition of the rough wall and her smooth skin. The religious iconography adds an interesting element to the composition. Well made, John! Link to comment
lightworks 0 Posted January 25, 2014 Whispers with a winsome, serene sense of the natural charm of such form amidst our naturally aspiring (to relish the source) world. Nicely done. Link to comment
wmc718 3 Posted January 25, 2014 Absolutely gorgeous high-key shot John... perfect graduations without blow out! And not only do I love your model, I love the setting too! Was this taken in Greece? Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 258 Posted January 25, 2014 Seven with great pleasure! I love the texture on such walls, pure Orthodox atmosphere, like the shadows and lights combined in an utmost manner! The tones are so beautiful and fitting...excellent, my friend, bravo! Best regards PDE Link to comment
Elstad 3 Posted January 25, 2014 Now this makes me think I need to get to church more often... A most lovely nude against architecture my friend. The crosses seem to be becoming a theme. Should I worry about you being taken over by the dark side :=} I know those christians think they walk in the light but...-r- Link to comment
John Peri 1,007 Posted January 25, 2014 Raymond - Christians, Jews and Muslims all believe in the same God (though they often don't realize it), yet each one of them is convinced that they alone will go to heaven. They may have a shock when they arrive there. Link to comment

lightworks 0 Posted January 25, 2014 Raymond and John - Not all of us on the 'dark side' are lost to the beauty of such work (We've also had a couple of Michaelangelo's, in spite of all the politics) and we have a pretty good idea of what is truly spiritual. To quote from a favorite artist (who may or may not be religious, you'd have to ask him),"An artist explores enlightenment through the material world. Unfortunately, the nature – the material of us is often dismissed as ungodly. It's an old concept in our culture that the material world is the work of the devil and to be seeking after God, you have to dismiss this. I think the opposite is really true. The material world is really something both sacred and spiritual, and the artist, if he neglects that, is being driven by cultural forces that are making a mistake. We explore our spirituality through the material". (Roger Dean). Personally, I think using such iconography as used here can say a great deal about us and our relationship to what counts. AlanKlein 2,904 Posted January 26, 2014 John: Wonderful photo. It's terrific how you held, even accentuated, all the details, in both the lighted and shadow areas. Either a stoke of luck or well planned that she stands in the middle between lightness and darkness. No, I'm not trying to be religious although you can claim that as well. But I think had she been to one side or the other, the shadow transition towards the top to one side of her or the other would have detracted from the model and image. Now it's like two different themes pulled together as one. I think this is one of those photos that will be interpreted in the future in many interesting and profound ways. Well done. Alan. fotomac 0 Posted January 27, 2014 I detest all religions with a vengeance, this is a photography website and we should be debating the merits / demerits of the photographic images presented for critique.Stunning image as you would expect from John, beautiful model, wonderful lighting and yes the iconic nature of the background does lend itself to the image, but if the very small cross was cloned out would this diminish or detract from the overall impact of the image.I think notMAC Link to comment
John Peri 1,007 Posted January 27, 2014 Interesting comment Colin, much appreciated, thank you. I dislike it even more when the models are discussed rather than the subject matter, which is "photography", as occurs with many photos. However, on many occasion the context makes an important contribution to the imagery, as you imply, and then I find it justified. The cross on the young lady in this particular case is meant to be an integral part of the image, but then we each see things as we wish to and "vive la difference". Link to comment
wink_photo 0 Posted January 30, 2014 John. I am kind of late to the party but thought I should give you a nod for a great photo. I personally like the iconography, especially since it is part of the building and on the model. The texture of the building is also a nice contrast to the model's skin. All the best. Dana...
