These buoys are removed at the end of the fishing season in October

and spend the winter on the wharf awaiting their re-soak for the start

of the lobster season in May.Thank you for your comment-Laurent

Lot of colors in an winter scene that in a way looks unusual but reading your story we know now for what this are useful. Those lot of ''things''on the frozen water what are?Fishing cabins?

Wharfs are pretty quiet places in winter. At this time of the year, once the ice has reached 30 to 60 cm,these little cabins show up for smelt fishing; holes are cut in the ice to match the holes in the floor of the cabins which are equipped with propane heaters to make for comfortable fishing even in extreme cold temperatures.Thank you for the interest.

Salutations amicales-Laurent

Thank you kindly!Yes,these are smelt cabins as I noted to Radu above. The ice is good and solid now and pickup trucks(see cabin on left)travel freely on the harbour except a few spots in the channel area where the tide action keeps the ice cap a little thinner. The crack on the right is from the tide lifting the cap and breaking where it sits on a high point.

Meilleures salutations-Laurent
