Excellent shot of this colorful Flamingo, nice lighting and the reflection works perfectly.  In fact, the reflection confirms the second leg ;-)... Mike

Many theories exist as to why, flamingos stand on one leg. The most plausible one is that they do so in order to conserve body heat.

Researches studying flamingos, also found that the birds rub pigmented secretions onto their feathers. These pigments are produced in glands near the base of their tails and as well as smoothing and tidying their feathers, many birds deliberately rub their cheeks against their preen gland and then immediately onto their neck, breast and back feathers. These pigments are used in order to attract potential mates and there is data indicating that females make-up much more often than males…:-).

I really like the angle of the birds neck as it leans to one side. This gives a much better view of the bird and it's bill. than a "head on" kind of shot.

The intensifying colour of the plumage towards the head and neck is really very evident at this angle.  Very sharp and well detailed!

I read with amusement the explanation about the Flamingo's standing on one leg.  I wonder if the females take longer in the bathroom too : - )

Compliments & best Regards

Very vibrant colours in this Flamingo. I like the posture of the bird, the reflections truly add to the composition. They are such elegant birds.

My dear Gail, nice to hear from you again!. They are elegant birds indeed. They emigrate to Cyprus after the first rains there. Thanks for your comment.

Warm regards,

Dimitris.
