alfbailey 1 Posted January 19, 2014 The guy in the photograph is a well loved street entertainer in Liverpool, despite being blind he plays amazing guitar and his rendition of Hank Marvin numbers is priceless! The little girl was far more interested in his dog : - ) All comments and thoughts are very welcome. Thank You, Link to comment
Bill J Boyd 64,460 Posted January 19, 2014 Alf, this is a very nice street shot with lots of people. I like it and pretty impressed that everybody seem to be in focus. Probably because you shot this at f/8. Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted January 19, 2014 Hi Alf, What a marvelous street shot. I like the interactions among the "cast" so to speak. The young lady is quite precious, there I like her hand on the dog and the dogs submissiveness. Lots to look at and take in. Very enjoyable image Alf. Take care.Best Always,Holger Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted January 19, 2014 Is this really you or has someone hijacked your password ;-)? There are more people in this one frame than all of your other work combined! Regardless, well captured with such a variety of expressions, though the three most blissful are the artist, the little girl and the guide dog that is enjoying a little time off from his duties. Excellent street shot... Mike Link to comment

Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted January 20, 2014 Alf, This looks like a street (we call it a mall) where cars are not permitted. How nice. I hope the musician does all right with his collections. If he's really good, maybe he could make a little microenterprise out of his talent making CD's. I'd like to see him employed in a music related position. Are there agencies or organizations in Liverpool that help people with disabilities to get employment? This looks like summer - we could use some days like this in frigid Minnesota. The image is busy, but interesting. I enjoy seeing the throng of people. Stay warm. Larry Link to comment
michaellinder 16,611 Posted January 20, 2014 Leave it to a child to be brutally honest. This young lady would rather pay more attention to the pooch than to the musician. But that's OK; it's her choice. Sad to say, it doesn't appear that anyone else in the frame is really paying any attention to him. Hopefully, folks in the UK support street musicians to a greater extent than most of us in the USA. Maybe that's why the musician's thank you sign contains a capital "U".You've done a great job capturing the pulse of this busy cityscape. Although I am a huge fan of your landscapes, I personally would like to see more of your street work. My best always, michael Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted January 22, 2014 Yes, you are right, the chosen aperture of F/8 did allow a good dof and enables the viewers to see the details in the characters surrounding the main performance. Many Thanks Bill Alf HOLGER Thank you so much! I think you are right, it is the little girl that kind of makes the shot, the dog seemed ot have infinite patience as everyone that put a few coins in the bucket seemed to think they were entitled to a free stroke of the dog : - ) Best Regards Alf MIKE Shhh It's not me, I'm incognito lol But yes you are right there probably are more people here in this shot than in my entire portfolio! I must confess to loving street photography, (second to landscapes of course) and this was one of my rare expeditions into my home city of Liverpool. Sincere Thanks for your positive feedback and encouragement Mike! Best Regards Alf PATSY Thank you for your interest and kind words, much appreciated! Best Regards Alf LARRY There are quite a lot of these "Pedestrianised" (as we call them) area's in Liverpool, where you can shop, walk, sit and listen to street music, safe in the knowledge you won't get run over by a bus or a taxi : - ) I think he might already sell CD's, and I do know he's very popular, incidentally, most of the onlookers are behind me, I managed to wriggle my way to the front to get this shot. There are lots of local organisation's designed to help disabled people in all kinds of way's, though I have to say most of them are charitable organisations. Government funding never really seems to go far enough. I did want to convey the hustle and bustle of the City, and the little oasis of sound and interaction in the middle of it all, and from your description I think I have! We have had a very mild winter so far, lots of rain and wind, but not really cold. Personally I prefer frost and snow, than rain and wind, it just makes for better photography! Many Thanks for your thoughts and observations Larry, much appreciated! Best Regards Alf MICHAEL You are so right! I can imagine the little girl asking her mother if it was ok to bring the dog home with her : - ) The "crowd" of onlookers was in the space to the sides and behind me, he get quite a good audience and is very well liked. I actually had to squeeze through the crowd to get this shot, and was just fortunate that the little girl showed up at the same time. I think most people in the UK love street music, I know I do. But I have to say the quality is variable some are great and others not so much. But I think they add colour and life to the streets, and I'm all in favour of them! I have to confess at my first love after Landscape photography comes Street! I don't often venture into my home City of Liverpool, but when I do, I know I am going to enjoy it, the characters and charm of the place is like no other on earth! Many Thanks for your most encouraging words Michael! Best Regards Alf ALBERTO Many Thanks for your interest and kind words! Best Wishes! Alf WANGHAN Thank you so much! I'm very pleased you liked it! GailAnthonyHarmer 5 Posted January 25, 2014 Very interesting Street capture Alf. I am sure the gentleman playing the Guitar makes up for his blindness in his heightened senses for sound and communication. I can see why the little girl is more interested in the dog. Service dogs are well known for their gentleness. Well seen Alf. Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted January 26, 2014 He certainly can knock out a tune! And he is very popular with the shoppers! The little girl cared not for the music that was being blasted out, she was more occupied with the dog, I think she wanted to take him home! Many Thanks for your thoughts and kind words Gail Best Regards Alf Link to comment
Elstad 3 Posted January 26, 2014 Looks like Grandpa is patiently waiting he does. The red shoes and accessories of the little girl draws one's eyes to her and makes her the subject and all others merely players upon her stage. A most Marvelous street image my friend!-r- Link to comment

tamaramar 0 Posted February 5, 2014 Wow, you managed to take a great picture of a flooded street ( :) there's connection with your landscape shots here). I miss this type of streets - you won't see it in Toronto if there's no parade or smth. Some streets are empty completely - it was so strange for me at the beginning..... Best and warmest regards, Tamara Link to comment
alfbailey 1 Posted February 5, 2014 I was born in Liverpool and I continue to love this City, but ever since I can remember I have yearned to be outdoors and in the countryside, and that continues to be the case. But I do love to go back now and again and just experience the unique atmosphere, the wonderful people and hustle and bustle of the place! You must miss this aspect of City life very much! Many Thanks & Warm Regards Alf. PS I have actually made a start on that book : - ) Link to comment
