It is said that HYPNOGOGIA, is the Unique State of Consciousness

between Wakefulness and Sleep. Many times I have dreams where I

do realize I am dreaming, and if the dream is really interesting I want

the dream to continue. There have been times when I have gotten up

to visit the 'loo', then gone back to sleep and the dream continues.

Some dreams are so vivid and real. I love a dream where I am on a

great adventure, one so enthralling, I do not want it to end. Many

times I have awoken to my dismay, but have been able to go back

into the dream. This of course is a Digital Composition, the main

image is where I have entered the Technical Details. My son Jess

was embracing my granddaughter Shaelyn while she was giving him

a big hug for the lovely Christmas gift he had given her. While not for

everyone, I enjoy getting lost in this kind of composition. I always 'file

these images away as 'Mental Health Breaks'!! :) While I enjoy

learning to excel in Photography, my love of Art will always draw me

towards 'creating' images. (any thoughts and comments are always

welcome, I hope you all had a Memorable Christmas Season, all the

Best to each one for the New Year, Gail)

Gail, I love it.  Your post-processing is excellent and I see "art" in this image.  BTW, I too have very vivid dreams.

Hi Bill, I wasn't sure where to post this image. I thought of Fine Art, but there are truly such talented people here on PN, that I get a bit perplexed whether to enter and image under Fine Art. Great to hear you have Vivid Dreams as well. I spoke to my Dad last night and he told me of how he often dreams he is flying. I have never dreamt that. I think it would be a very liberating experience. Thanks Bill for those very encouraging remarks,

kindest regards, GAil

Gail,

Excellent image as always.  I like the images you used to juxtapose together.  Overlays nicely done & accentuates your ?sleeper?. Tonal values of all elements work as a whole. Thanks for this one.

Many thanks for your visit and input!! I chose the state 'Hypnogogia' because I can identify with it, and It is interesting. When Jess was 11 mos old he had to go in hospital for some tests. They took about 3 days, and he was so afraid that he was not with me (tried to be there as much as I could) I don't think he hardly slept the whole 3 days. When I got him home, he would fall asleep, but his eyes would be 'open'. (really creeped me out) but perhaps he was subconsciously trying to stay awake so he would not loose sight of me. Thank you for our very encouraging remarks about this one, :) Gail

Hi Gail,

For this "painting like" image, the use of quality imagery, from the proper use of camera and lens, only makes this scene come alive.

A fine work of Art my dear friend.

Best Regards, Mike

A very emotional and artistically engaging image.  I love the textures you've created, and I'm in awe of your ability to combine images in such an artistic way.  And I learned a new word to boot!  FYI.....I never remember my dreams.....I wonder what that says about me?  ;-)

Hello Dear Gail, Excellent composition, colors, and full of details. This is real art where the elements work together, you truly are my inspiration.  :)

I believe the strongest part of this piece of art is the face expression and the lost in love and tenderness faraway eyes...beyond that the colors are superb here and the whole visual synthesis very skillful. Very well done Gail!

Nice work Gail. The face is key in this image and it's good, very expressive. It reminds me of a midevil portrait. The creatures add a lot of interest too. I like it.

Actually, my son was in the middle of hugging his neice (my granddaughter Shaelyn) when I took this image. He does love her so much, and Shaelyn thinks the world of him. It is always lovely to 'feel' the mood in the room when we get together. Thank you for your encouraging remarks Yannis, but for especially noticing the 'expression' on Jesse's face.

Sincere thanks for your visit, Gail

Hello my friend, I am hearing on the news just how HOT it is in Australia and it is quite a dangerous situation in many areas. You did mention just how hot it is. Stay safe and well. So good to see you had the opportunity to log on. You will be very sad to leave, but happy to come home and see your family!

Hugs from cold Canada!!! :) GAil

Gail, I too feel that life is like a dream. Please allow me to tell you a story. A king had a dream that he was hungry but there  was no food anywhere. He saw few dogs were scavenging leftovers from a litter bin. He was fighting with the dogs to have few pieces of leftovers. The dogs attacked him. He screamed and woke-up to realize that it was a nightmare. He found himself surrounded by beautiful damsels with choicest food & wine. He was baffled and wondered whether he was  still dreaming.  So the King inquired from a Wise Man (Guru) which one is true. The Wise Man said both were dreams. To me life is a 'vanishing reality'. This moment it  is true, next moment it is gone. Please continue with your creative works, which are  so much liked , all over the world.

hpynogogic states are different from dreams, though. much more disoriented. the brain is working differently, not in REM.

magnificent picture. best, jamie

What a lovely critique. I enjoyed the 'dream' you shared. What is real and what is not. I suppose it depends upon the individual's interpretation of their existence as well. We often add a bit of Drama to our Reality - or do not pay much attention to what is going on around us - or appreciate it. The moments do fade quickly. I try to remember the 'blessings' that come inbetween!! There is always something good if we truly search it out.

many thanks for those kind words, you put a 'smile on my heart' Amal, most sincerely, Gail

Hi Gail, it's an outstanding work. It's, as you say, in a border between dream and reality. Post work is a perfect match - I see how you felt and what you were thinking about, and I also see how your son felt like - and the crop is excellent. Very powerful image - highest rate, and it goes to my favorites. Thanks for sharing!
