Gut Response:

-- when we were forced to shoot Autos with a 4x5 -- we needed to devise a way to get the round objects, like a door lock, to "Look" right in the result. The easiest way was to  redesign the bits and pieces to reflect perception of the result.

I love the color usage but hate the horizon lines which fail to pay off the manhole cover which "should be round"?

Not only the scene, but the forms/ colors in general, and the red  arrangements in composition!.... a very good observation!

You managed to keep him grounded, still...

I very much like the various color specks & the way the divided horizontal lines inform your photo - practically like a comic strip...

Except for the car in the foreground and the sewer on the left, it would have looked like a top angle of a man sleeping on the ground next to his panel. Actually this is how I saw it in the thumbnail. But it is not and still a great perspective. I love the space you gave to the foreground.
