Jack McRitchie 150 Posted December 16, 2013 This has a palpable proto-dimensionality to it. ("palpable proto-dimensionality", I kind of like the way that rolls off the tongue). It feels like primitive 3-D but without the need of those clunky, burdensome glasses. Here the slight lens distortion at the edges, (especially the foreground section of the road and the shoulder, lower left) leaves me with the impression that they're somehow floating towards us while the background recedes, giving the inward spiral of this picture a remarkable sense of depth. The selective handling of brightness and vignette adds to the effect. Link to comment
