Law Offices from Alley at Night

Landrum Kelly

ISO 12,800

f/2.8

1/400 sec (Seems unlikely, but the camera metered on a bright spot which has been cropped out.)

Hand-held.

Zoom set at 28mm on this shot, which is as wide as this lens will go--and yet there was nothing here except for this small area near the center, which was not my intended subject.

I like the repeat of the arch on the wall to the right (cinder block?). Anyway, that and the just visible AC unit on the left are nice in this one.

Really a good series of photos. These pictures of the town in the dead of night play off the dramatic lighting and have plenty of atmosphere. I like the brick wall leading us into the law offices.

Thanks, everyone.  Most of the shots made this night were made either in this alley or less than fifty yards from it.  From start to finish, I was only out there for a very few minutes.  I'm glad that these photos hang together as a body of work.

They make me want to go out there and try more street photography at night, but not every town is as safe as this little town was.

Hi Lannie,

The Nikon D3s is well suited for low light level work not requiring higher resolution capability that your lens can provide.

This full frame sensor allows for an effective capture, like this scene, to set a mood with a documentary type value associated with it.

Nice accomplishment my friend.

Best Regards, Mike

Could be anywhere even old London with the ripper haunting the shadows.  Just looking at it I would never have guessed it was shot with a Nikon.  I said to myself why this looks like an atmospheric Olympus style JPEG image:-) Comfy and warm family holidays, Lennie and keep the hands warm out there,  gs

Thanks, Patsy, Mike, Gerry.

Gerry, I guess that shooting at ISO 12,800 can do some funny things to colors and everything else.

Enjoy those palm trees!
