Large view is recommended. I decided to convert this image to B&W. Your

views on it vs. the color version are appreciated. Thanks for weighing in on

your thoughts. Larry

The B & W gets my vote. It evokes a totally different mood than the colour version. Perhaps more cold and barren but somehow more comforting than the colour version. I'm struggling to describe my thoughts here, but the B & W  seems more natural, more in keeping with the terrain. The colour versions looks arid and dry and to me no where near as appealing. You will no doubt realise I am just relating my impressions and not finding fault with the colour version photographically. But to summarise my thoughts, I'd rather hang this one on my wall!

Compliments & Best Regards

The color version is lovely, but IMO there isn't enough contrast in the colors to make a real statement.  I get more of a 'pow' factor with the B&W.  It's starkness is more apparent.  One thing that I did notice though.......the B&W appears more sharpened than the color version.  I have a small monitor, so I'm not sure if it's over-sharpened or not, but it seems significantly more 'crunchy' (how do like that technical photo term?) than the color version.  Considering the subject matter of rocks and mountains, this may not be a bad thing......just an observation from my end.  Very nice work!

Alf,

Christal,

Mehmet,

Thanks for your visits and viewpoints.  I fully agree.  The B&W definitely has more punch and drama.  Christal, I did not do any additional sharpening to the B&W.  The rock here is virtually all volcanic lava do tthe huge volcano of Mt. Mazuma that created Crater Lake.   The detailed rough texture of the rock could be interpreted as "over sharpening", but it's not.  I used the Nik software pliugin, Silver EfexPro2 to do the B&W conversion.  Thanks to you all.  Happy Holidays and New Year.  Larry

I like the B+W version better as well.  The contrast is more dramatic and the colors were not intense in the other version.  Another bonus, with this version the chromatic aberration, the green fringe, is not visible.  The photo makes me want to get back to the Rockies!  But, I'll wait until spring ;-)

Beautiful landscape which is revealed best in the larger view as you suggest. I prefer this one to the color version because it brings maybe better out the proportions and gives more 3d feeling to the landscape, fine work. br Hannu

Thanks for your time and visits.  I too prefer the B&W.  As for the contrast, Silver EfexPro 2 is a most impressive plugin for converting to B&W.  I like the fact that the program allows one to check each of the ten gray values to see if the full range is present in the image.  Also, the many temple choices provide a good starting point for the conversion.  Best to you all for the holidays and New Year.   Larry
