The  idea was to copy the jet aircraft designs in chrome.  Chrome was a bummer to keep shiny.  Interesting to old car fans....they still run, but lack catalytic converters and seat belts.  Museum pieces now.

You are right.This car is probably in better condition now than it was as it came out of the factory;restoration includes flawless show chrome and paint is now new system(base coat/clear coats) rather than the old lacquer....and this baby never sees rain anymore.Thank you for viewing and for the appreciation.

You are right on all counts and here,all cars of this vintage which have survived our calcium intense winters rarely see more than the trips from their storage garage to the car shows and back at low speeds.
