Thanks all.  He had a great time during the shoot.  The key for him is to keep a pocket full of treats.  I had the setup in the living room with a 6 foot square piece of yellow canvas hanging a couple feet behind him.  We had to go into the kitchen to get more treats and he raced back well in front of me and sat in the perfect spot, right in the middle and in front of where the flash was hanging down for the background, alert and ready for a banana peel on the head with snacks to follow.

I'm still laughing while I'm writting...not much to say, just a perfect 7 from me. He is definitely the greatest star in PN!

Christal, I did try, but you can imagine how hard it is to not just balance an orange on a dog's head, but keep it from rolling off long enough to back up and take a "good" picture. It proved to be impossible, so I cheated and hollowed out the back of the orange with a spoon and then put two sided tape on it. I did one shoot and in almost all of the pics the orange was leaning over and defying gravity, so I called it quits. I didn't like having to cheat anyway, so just as well. I still have the orange background hanging, so I might do like I did with the lime, but a little differently. Peel it completely and put the whole orange in his mouth and then place the peels on his head.

I'll give you a technique I use in cooking when I have to stabilize something.  If you'll shave off (ever so slightly) the end of the orange to create a flat surface, rather than hollowing it out, it may work.  It would still look like the entire orange if you didn't shave off too much.

You could also use the double sided tape, but the dog may not like it when you rip it off. :-)   Another possibility is to use clear nylon thread and thread it through the bottom of the orange and tie the thread about the dog's neck.  Worth a try.  I don't think it would show up in the picture.

Anyway, I've really enjoyed this series, so I'll stay tuned.  :-)

Thanks for the tips, Christal. I'll definitely try the shaving off the bottom technique if I decide to shoot the orange on his head instead of in his mouth.
