After a disappointing start to the day, I arrived here at the second

location and I was quite pleased that the mist arrived with me. I had

barely placed my feet in the water to take a shot of the scene, when the

boat appeared!

My luck had certainly changed......It got even better, just after I took a

few more shots, and the mist got thicker........I heard a splash beside

me and looked round to see this guy had joined me for a drink.....(see

next posting for the shot I took) I left the colours fairly subdued for this,

as that is how they looked in the drizzly mist. Your thoughts and

comments are always appreciated! Thank You.

Hi Alf,

Yes, this is a beauty! There is a wonderful expansiveness to this, but real clarity and focus as well..beautiful colors and balance. Great!

The larger view is absolutely stunning.  Your composition is spot-on and the reflections are wonderful.  This should be hanging on someone's wall.

I looked this location Grasemere up online and found it to be fascinating. I did not realise William Wordsworth lived in this area for a number of years. Lovely capture that would make for a very Artistic presentation when framed Alf! The colors are beautiful and the mist is lovely. I am glad for you the people in the row boat appeared, certainly added interest for this capture. Beautiful reflections on the lake. Very high ground that surrounds this Lake and the hill (Mt.??) to the left is so interesting in appearance. I can see why you are drawn to the Lake District. So beautiful. I also watched a Video on about the mountains in the Lake District, breathtaking! This one is a keeper!

kind regards, Gail

Well the subdued colors work very well Alf. To me it's a classic landscape and your composition is right on. Love the boat........Holger

The reflections play important role on this picture, it is well composed and picturesque in spite of the gloomy weather! Give it a black stroke, ha!

Best regards, Alf!

You have a knack for being in the right place at the right time with the eye for composing amazing scenes. The soft fall colors and their reflections in the almost still water are not just beautiful---they have a calming effect on the viewer.  As usual, well done. ~~~~~L

A gorgeous, Autumn image with a mystical feel to it Alf. Love the peaceful air that emanates from this image.

All the best,

Stunning in the large view!  It would be a great image even without the boat (perfectly placed with it's wake behind it), and that amazing mountain of red/brown behind (what is growing there?).  The color palette is really extraordinary, and the mist/clouds create a scene that is idyllic and calming.  Do you know what the building is?  A manor perhaps?  Excellent work, as usual!

Thank you so much for your thoughts and kind words.

It was a scene that changed with each passing second, the mist on the tops of the mountains descending and the far bank becoming more and more vague,  I count myself as blessed when I get such conditions.

I am so pleased you like this one!

Best Regards

Sincere Thanks for your thoughtful feedback.  Maybe it will be hanging on my wall, as it is I am only about a third of the way through looking at the images from this session and already I'm pleased to say I'm finding more that I like.  Sometimes I don't find any : - )

William Wordsworth's work was heavily influenced by the Lake District and you can see why, it is the most amazing location, and there is miles and miles of it.............sheer bliss!

I sometimes think I am blessed when boats appear, mist manifests itself and colours look so vibrant, it's like it was already painted just for me. The most amazing thing was how it changed, the mist making it so beautiful veiling the landscape in its soft folds.......I will post a few more shots when I get round to processing them to show you what I mean. You would love it here.......but the damp weather can play havoc with aches and pains.

I have no idea what the mountain to the left is called, I really should pay more attention to names. Sometimes I go to places and come back not knowing where exactly I have been : - )  But I never have trouble finding them again.

Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and kind words

Kind Regards

Many Thanks for your positive feedback.  I know from experience just how easy it is to get carried away when processing images, increasing contrast and vibrancy to the point that the original mood and atmosphere all but dissipates. I learned the hard way : - )

After your "Black Stroke" suggestions I have sought the advice of PS Expert Gail Harmer who has kindly provided me with enough information to carry out your suggestions : - )

The gloomy weather makes it so appealing, it's like a beautiful woman dressed in sack cloth, her beauty cannot be denied no matter how she dresses, and so it is with this amazing place.

Many Thanks Pierre

Sometimes I wait for weeks to get the right weather, and in between me being in the right place at the right time it gets so frustrating!  The previous three excursions to this one ended up with me returning home with a face like thunder, because the rain wouldn't stop, and the wind wouldn't stop either : - )

But all the frustrating moments, wasted journeys and empty flash cards disappear when it all comes right........it's what drives us ever forward.

Sincere Thanks Linda

It's a beautiful spot, and the lake side walk is enchanting, I was most fortunate to catch it right.

The mystical mist got a whole lot mistier a very short time after this : - )

30 Minutes later you couldn't see the far shore and the atmosphere was so wet I had to pack my camera away........not before I got a few more shots though!

Sincere Thanks for your positive feedback Neil.

Oh and you will be pleased to know I now have my van and will soon be departing on my travels and adding a full commentary ........well when I get time : - )

CHRISTAL

Sincere Thanks for your thoughtful feedback.

The vegetation is a mixture of coniferous and deciduous tree's and with a smattering of heather and grasses. The Building is a now a Hotel, (The Daffodil Hotel) and the older part of the building was built by Levi Hodgson in 1855 as a testimony to William Wordsworth. It has currently undergone substantial modernisation, I'm starting to sound like a tourist brochure : - )  But suffice to say it has had several names and the place has practically been rebuilt over the last 2 years.

I might just indulge in a stay there at some point in time, it looks very tempting!

Cheers Christal, Take Care

Many Thanks for your interest and kind words.

The "soft" option was easy due to the ever increasing mist, but I did further experiments with apertures, I never tire of experiments!

Who could write that script for me........travel 120 miles arrive at one location, spend an hour there, move on another 20 miles to this location. Climb a wall, walk through undergrowth, descend a steep incline (mostly on my backside) walk across 2 fields, climb another wall, then a fence, then arrive at the lakeside just in time for the boat to appear to my left.......some things are just mean't to be I guess.

Sincere Thanks!

Alf,   Wonderful image - you always manage to create a great mood and sense of real depth.  I can feel the chill of the drizzle and splendor of the superb reflections you have captured.  I hope that fisherman appreciated his surroundings as much as you did at this scene.  I like the softness of the image as well.   Larry

This is so beautiful. The reflections, the atmosphere and composition is so good. You were really lucky to get there on a foggy day.

Always good to get your input, Thank You!

I used to love fishing, as much for the surroundings as for the chance of catching anything, but I have to confess that although I appreciated being in beautiful surroundings at the most interesting times of the day, I really don't think I ever looked at the world the same since I looked at it through a camera viewfinder.

My only regret on this occasion was that I couldn't stay longer as the drizzle become more of a downpour.

Cheers Larry!

I was fortunate indeed to arrive at the lake with foggy conditions. I do study the weather forecast to try and predict the conditions at my intended destination, but there is never any guarantee.

Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and kind words!

HI,Alf! I am glad you have wheels to take you around, really! I don't have any, so 99 % of my pictures are taken within 200 m from my apartment building. It is fun already: how many pictures one can take staying in the same place? have you thought about it? I think you should get kind of recorder too - so you could be on a place and record your feelings, excitement or frustration... I am waiting for your book, remember? Warmest regards, Tamara

The Lake District is certainly very photogenic especially though your lens and the boat is truly the icing on the cake. A lovely picture!.

I take so much for granted, yet I am always humbled in the presence of such a beautiful scene.  Your thoughts serve to remind me just how fortunate I am. I have just bought a new van, which hopefully is going to be my means of escape and future camping trips!

I do walk to the nearby golf course and get some interesting shots from there, but I don't know if I could match your diversity and imagination at taking images from within a 200 m radius.

The recorder is a good idea, but the images themselves are also a good reminder of what I was feeling at the time.

You will be amongst the first to get a complimentary copy of the book Tamara............when I get round to writing it of course : - )

Warmest Regards

It is little wonder that this place inspired such great writers and poets, it inspires me on each and every occasion I visit.

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback.
