Ok, you got me.  I spent a couple minutes trying to figure out the title :-).  A grand view.  When we were there our friend spotted a blond Grizzly at the bottom and we all had to sit there until everyone found it.  Of course it was pin size from this distance.  Wish I were there... Mike

PS... Oops, this looks like Glacier but I see from your next post that this is in Jasper.  We've never been there but would love to.

I like it -- a small part of the ecosystem.  I think it's the contrasting colors, especially the light blue against the dark green.  I think the main interest is the river and the slope of trees behind it, so you might be able to crop some of the foreground and perhaps enhance the appeal of the photo.

Mike.....we've been to Jasper before, but never to the Edith Cavell area.  I highly recommend the hikes there....some amazing scenery!  There are some similarities to Glacier though.

Stephen, for the very reasons you mentioned I already cropped this significantly.  Although the serpentine shape of the river was interesting, what I liked most was the unique colors of the water.  You may be right about some additional cropping.  Thanks!

If you're still around :-).......I had to try your idea, and I do like seeing more of the water.  I kept the ratio the same, but do you think it encroaches too much on the sides?  I could have gone with more of a panoramic look by only cropping the bottom, but I wanted to keep the ratio the same if possible.  Thanks for your suggestion!

Christal, I really like the result of your further crop -- I think you picked the perfect lower border.

I know what you mean about wanting to maintain a certain aspect ratio, but here I don't think you could have gone wrong either way.  Your side crops have maintained the essential elements -- the curves in the river.  As long as those curves are intact, the cropping "works."

At the same time, however, I've often found a 2:1 aspect ratio works very well, especially in a photo that has a left-to-right orientation; your flowing river fits that definition, IMO.  So that's why I think side cropping or no side cropping would both have worked very well.

It's nice to see this larger on your attached photo.  The colors and detail are even more striking.  This is a wonderful landscape photo.

Stephen.....thanks so much for helping me improve the image.  I often forget to check the little box asking if the comment was helpful, but this was so helpful that I checked it twice for you!  :-)  Thanks again!

Ernest....glad you like it!  Thanks!
