wingell 0 Posted December 6, 2013 Wow, this is one forbidding storefront, Mike. The owners seem determined to prevent the public from seeing what they have to offer. I'm intrigued; I'd love to know their story. A very nicely done image. Regards...Bill Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 50,318 Posted December 6, 2013 The Tezaks founded a funeral service in Joliet, I don't know exactly what year. Then, according to the "Images of America" book "Joliet" Mr. Tezak was murdered by a drunken employee. Shot in the chest with a shotgun. I don't think it was at this location. The wife took over the business until here sons were old enough to run it and I think they are still in business today in some area of Will county. The Tezaks were Slovenian immigrants. The area where this photo was taken was know as Slovenian Row. At one time 10% of The Joliet population was Slovenian. Now most of these businesses are run by Mexican immigrants. I drove up there one morning to see if I could find my Mom's birthplace & it turned out to be a real interesting morning. Thanks for the look Bill. Link to comment
