kirigoi 0 Posted November 12, 2013 Beautiful capture of an interesting moment; any chance of more information about the occasion? I'd also have commented on the lovely black and white processing but notice you were using Ilford Delta ;) Was this taken in 1994? If so I guess it's a long time since you took the photo; I imagine it may not necessarily reflect your current work so I offer further critique with that reservation in mind. My main complaint is the out of focus closest subject; she has a wonderful expression and it's a real shame she's blurry. Some of the shadows are a little overly dark also, and the photo as a whole could probably be a little brighter as there's not much danger yet of highlights clipping. That being said, I understand that low light photography has moved on hugely with improved sensitivity of digital cameras; I well remember the challenge of shooting in darkened interiors with 400 ISO Ilford HP5+ and a 50 f/1.4. Even with the lowest possible handheld shutter speed and shooting wide open there was still never enough light. As such depth of field was always limited so you've done well here to capture as much as you have. Thanks for sharing! Best wishes, Mark Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted November 12, 2013 Was no occasion. My wife and I were passing through Philadelphia and just "hanging out" on South Street on a Saturday night. South Street then and I suppose now also was a spot for night life. For more information Google "South Street" and get its flavor on YouTube with the 60's song "Meet Me on South Street". Yep, probably shooting wide open or close to (DOF) and the girl in front moved. Attaching the first shot which was before they were aware of me. I expect that I then ask to take their photo. There was one more shot -a close up portrait of the girl second on the left -Michaelle. They are Athea, Michaella, Twanda and Shay. This genre -people- is about what I always shot. I don't shoot today so I dig out old negatives which were never printed and scan them. Not so long ago. That's what scares me. Thanks for commenting. Link to comment
