Very nice. This looks like the type of thing one would see on a calendar dedicated to Virginia. It might be better if the top of the sky were a little lighter to balance out the over all light tones of the scene. The sky is so much darker than the hay.

I have said this before but this looks like one of these shots that was just there for the taking. I don't mean that to sound negative. The simple fact is, too few of us do take these shots and fewer get such good results. Quite lovely!

David, that's exactly what happened!  I was riding down a country road with my brother, who was looking for turkeys, when I saw this and told him to hit the brakes.  He was hoping I saw a gang of turkeys.  Thanks for commenting.

Thanks James.  The light was peaking through holes in the clouds and scattered here and there.  I  considered lightening the sky a little, but it was so dark, and this is how I remembered it.

This is beautiful, Dominick - makes me proud to call Virginia home! Had to look up Swoope, though ;-)

The sky is arresting in this image and I wouldn't touch it. Thanks so much for posting this!

Very nice image Dom. I always wonder how one can capture those hay rolls and I think you sure present them well here along with the house and the red plant (really get the attention). TFS!

Very, very impressive with the details.  Nice foreground with the bales which are sharp with the details and texture.  Nice lighting.  Very good fall color.  Best Regards,

I love the details of the hay bales which add invaluable texture.  Very well seen and imaginative.

The first feeling I had though was there here is a story.  It gives a small insight into farming in your area.  The farmhouse peeps out behind the trees and the light shows things to advantage and just the right amount of atmosphere.

Kindest regards

Jim

Great mood and atmosphere with the subdued lighting, dark sky and old looking house! Interesting thing is what is in the front plan, as you wanted to say that what life in the countryside is all about making food! Bravo, Dominick!

Best regards

Hi Dominick,

A pleasant picturesque scene.

There are no details beyond the gross features  when viewed in large , due to the F/16 used, but as a post card this would be acceptable.

the "perception" of sharp details in where the "mind" process what it thinks is there, when in fact, the fine details are blurred upon close examination.

With my many 45 mm focal length lens, using F/4 to F/5.6 is as far done as my aperture would be set fro such a scene capture.

Best Regards, Mike

Thank you Mike!  I'm following your advice on wide apertures now.  I've been experimenting, and trying to find a sweet spot.  You are correct, it's not at f16 at this focal length.
