It's a lot of fun, but usually takes several tries to get good results.  I need to buy another fiber optic cable for my flashlights.  I had one year ago and used it for some nighttime photos.  There's a fellow on Flickr who's done some amazing portraits using flashlights and fiber optics.  He started out doing only self portraits because he was too shy to ask anyone to model.  But his technique has evolved so well he's easily able to get folks to model for him now.

Thanks, Lex! Very creative and artistic work.

I have a few bundles of thin fiber optic strands that'll be perfect for his type of work. Might give it a try. The possibilities will be endless with tri-colored LEDs.

Bit off topic, but I've been perusing these photos; if you haven't seen them.

Fascinating stuff, thanks for that link.  Even when I knew it was an illusion, I still felt disoriented by those two-face photos.

Unlike Michael, I really want to know how you did it.  So thanks for the explanation.  It rather looks like a mummy, and what is most impressive is how you made it look like it was sitting down.

I've done light painting twice with a bit of success, but nothing this intricate.  It makes me want to experiment further with the idea.

It's a fun technique but I need to strengthen my attachments to the lights.  The twirling builds up a lot of stress and I'm concerned the keychain swivels won't hold.  Even with the little 1 oz flashlight it could do some damage if it flew off while I'm twirling the thing around.  I'm going to try heavy duty fishing snap swivels.  Without the swivels the tether cord will bunch up.
