Your lens is ok at F/8, but its peak performance at 500mm is F/6.3.

Gosh Mike........... you spotted this one before I even got a word in edgeways....... nevertheless, thanks for your input here, I always appreciate your time and tuition.

This was my first real outing with my new lens.... mounted on a pistol grip...... mounted on a monopod.

I really wanted to see the clarity of the lens...... by getting all my ducks in a row.

My post processing here is a slight crop and a touch of darkening (bright white sky ugh).

So yes! I'm quite pleased with the performance of this lens and the motor is so quiet.

Whatever, the F stop this is a fabulous capture! The colours are spot on, as you know I get a lot of these birds in my garden and the detail here is terrific.

One last try, . . . I've tried commenting three times so far!

Can't comment on the color, although I expect it is just as you observed it and is natural according to previous posts. We don't see too many of these guys/gals here in the midwest US!

The details are very good and that glint in the eye is the icing on the cake here!

Thanks for stopping by. Prior to emigrating here in 2000, I had only ever seen one of these (in the flesh/feather) in an aviary section of a Zoo....... so yes! they are unique to Australia.

The colour is possibly a little brighter than normal as it is Spring over here and all male plumage takes on that "mating call" attraction.

Yes, I am pleased with my new lens and am patiently awaiting the weekend for some more tryouts.

Australia has a huge bird-life, unfortunately most of it is on the Eastern Seaboard and living in the West, we have to put up with whatever nature decreed we should have. That said, we don't do too badly (as my portfolio should show).

The colours here are slightly exaggerated from the norm, as it is Spring and the male plumage takes on a much richer hue for the mating season.
